“I Left My Heart In San Francisco”
by Tony Bennett
The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay
The glory that was Rome is of another day
I’ve been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan
I’m going home to my city by the Bay
I left my heart in San Francisco
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care
My love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco
Your golden sun will shine for me
I thought Tony Bennett was more poetic than me, so those are his lyrics. I am sharing some of my favourite photographs from my days in the city by the bay, ie. San Francisco. Have you been? The light in California is really quite magical! And contrary to popular belief if you go a little North, South or East of the city, there is more sunny days than most places!
Maybe it is because I am British but I actually was fascinated by the fog that would roll in. Sometimes a light mist that would just float across the bay. Other times a thick erie but gorgeous blanket, like a soft cloud just gently landed on the city to protect it.
I must admit this beautiful feat of engineering did give me a fright every time I crossed it! Even more so when you literally can’t even see the bridge because of the morning fog! You just keep driving, hoping the bridge is still there, amazed that you can’t see the water, the bridge, just a bit of light from passing cars.
London is quite flat, so the hills where totally new to me! The mountains, the landscape so foreign yet so beautiful.
This is Mount Tamalpais in Marin County in the background.. A gorgeous little mountain that actually does get a slight dusting of snow from time to time!
Tiburon is a lovely town with some of the most lovely parks in the area. Also a lovely view of the San Francisco skyline and some fantastic little cafes! A very amazing place in the Bay Area.
Sausalito is one location most of the French I have met actually have either been to or heard of! Again a gorgeous little town with quaint shops and of course the gorgeous view of San Francisco! A must see place to visit when you visit San Francscio
I have seen few sunsets with the warmth of Californian sunsets. Only the South Of France has rivaled them. I am viewing this now in the winter here in the South of France and although Provence is warmer than most of Europe this time of year, I am a cold wedding photographer in Provence! I miss the warm summer sunshine! I hope it is back soon!
This is one of my top 10 photographs I have taken if you don’t count the kids or weddings. I love it. If you are a sailboat lover then you will be a very happy bunny in San Francisco! A lot of them here in the French Riviera as well. So I guess I picked the right part of France to be a photographer!
If you haven’t been before, hopefully these photographs will encourage you to go! I am always available for select weddings in the San Francisco Bay Area including San Francisco, Napa, St Helena, Marin County and further afield. Any reason for a trip to California is a good one!
I am also open for weddings anywhere in Europe, not just here in France! Please email today to tell me about the amazing wedding you have planned!
